Starrett No 015, 5 Machinist Bench Vise with Swivel Base

It has 5" wide jaws which open to 4-1/4", and has been used in my instrument shop since the late'80s. This is a dead square, toolmakers vise. It's never been used an an anvil and has spent its life in a toolroom supporting an optical shop. The jaws are soft steel, as its role was to gently grip precision parts for assembly and rework. Ths speckle painted finish is original and amply demonstrates the care and attention this vise has received. It has no rust, look at the pictures of the bottom of the swivel which looks like it left the foundry last week. Soft steel replaceable jaw inserts are surface ground flat, serrated jaws (not included) can be exchanged. Locking swivel base for non-slip hold in any position. Long spindle nut ensures smooth movement and a strong straight-line pull. The vise weighs 40 lbs, the cast iron vise body is virtually indestructible. Precision ground flat slide bar eliminates movement in the front jaw regardless of opened distance. Protected construction keeps lubrication in and contaminants out for a lifetime of smooth operation.
