Works great, smooth and responsive. No cracks or damage seen. A nice 1940's Wilton. Completely disassembled, stripped, degreased, bath in rust remover, and wire brush. New jaws, jaw pins and jaw screws.
Copper jaws made to match existing screw/pin locations. Original jaws and nuts included.
Anvil,'meatball', and horseshoe collar dialed-in to. 005 or less taken off.
015 or less off anvil. Added a bronze bushing/thrust-washer to take out a little play and backlash. Primered (self-etching) and several coats of Rustoleum Hammered Copper. I have a background in toolmaking and rebuild 40's-60's vises for fun. No filler, no sandblasting, no unnecessary filing or smoothing, no unwieldy hand-held power tools, and nothing was welded or heated possibly disturbing the original temper.
I aim to be minimally intrusive using professional techniques to bring these excellent vises back to good operating condition.
