Unmarked Prentiss No. 20 4-1/2 Swivel Jaw Swivel Base Vise

This is a restored unmarked Prentiss No. The jaws measure 4-1/2 across.

I completely disassembled and cleaned the vise. There were no cracks or brakes in the castings. I fabricated a new jaw pin, swivel lock and washer for the base. The machining is not perfect, but the parts turned out pretty good. The swivel jaw moves easily.

The swivel lock is pretty hard to pull up on because of the size of the original spring. A lighter spring would make the movement easier. Once unlocked the vise swivels easily.

The vise was completely primed and painted. Other than the stamped numbers, there are no other markings on the vise.

There is very little backlash in the screw. This beautiful vise is ready to be bolted down and put to work.
